Ερύγγιο των αγρών (Eryngium campestre L.)
Rigid, light green biennial or perennial, 30–50 cm tall. Rootstock with a fibrous collar. Stem usually solitary, terete, divaricately much-branched in upper half. Lower leaves broadly ovate in outline, coriaceous, pale glaucous-green, usually 3-sect with ± pinnatifid primary segments and broadly winged, spiny-dentate rhachis. Heads numerous, pale green, in a broad synflorescence occupying most of plant. Bracts 5 or 6, rigid, entire, linearlanceolate, spine-tipped, much exceeding inflorescence. Petals whitish. Fruit with dense, overlapping scales.
