Slender, ascending to erect or rarely diffuse annual, 15–55 cm tall. Cauline leaves pinnatisect or trisect into linear or oblong laciniae, the uppermost leaves sometimes forming an involucre. Sepals usually 5, pale blue to ashy white, with broadly ovate, shortly acuminate limb, truncate to cordate at base, narrowed into claw 0.4–0.8 times as long as limb. Honey leaves 8, smaller; lower lip bipartite with variously coloured transverse bands. Anthers pale blue or yellowish, with mucro 0.4–1.0 mm. Follicles almost smooth to densely tuberculate, united to 30–65%; beak (stigmatic area) 0.5–1.5 times as long as follicle. Seeds triquetrous.
