Plant large and robust, generally 30–60 cm tall. Lower leaves 2–5, forming an indistinct rosette, up to 22 × 10 cm, ovate-elliptical, shiny green, unspotted. Spike 8–15 cm, ovoid to broadly cylindrical, dense. Lower bracts exceeding flowers. Flowers varying from greenish-white to dull purple. Sepals and petals loosely connivent to form a hood. Labellum twice as long as perianth segments, with ± undulate margins, 3-lobed; lateral lobes obliquely oblong; middle lobe narrowly obovate to rectangular in outline, 2-lobed. Spur short, stout, conical.
