Moraea sisyrinchium (L.) Ker Gawl.

Moraea sisyrinchium (L.) Ker Gawl. x Iris sisyrinchium L.
With an ovoid corm covered by tough, reticulate-fibrous tunics. Stem erect, 10–30 cm tall, with 2–5 flowers. Leaves (1–)2, sheathing at base, linear, much exceeding stem, 3–7 mm wide, tough and ribbed. Flowers delicate, opening in the afternoon and lasting only a few hours, sky-blue to bluish-violet. Spathes 4–6 cm, ± dry and scarious. Falls 20–40 mm, elliptical, with white blotch in lower centre and sometimes dark spots along midvein in lower half. Standards suberect, narrower. Capsule c. 20 × 4 mm. Seeds c. 1.5 mm, angular-pyriform, dark brown.
