Rhizomatous perennial with thick roots. Stem erect, robust, moderately branched, 50–150 cm tall; whole plant soft-pilose. Leaves opposite, 3–10 cm, sessile, semi-amplexicaul, oblong-lanceolate, shallowly serrate with curved teeth. Flowers in short racemes. Petals 10–16 mm, bright purplish-pink. Stigma distinctly 4-lobed. Seeds c. 0.8 mm, finely papillose.
